3D-interactive Demo
3D-models are the most persuasive medium for communication, advertising and promotion. Why? Because there's something primitively emotional about seeing and interacting with photorealistic 3D. Much more so than with television or video. If you don't see why, just watch your kids. They get it.

As we were born in 3D, we behave instinctly in 3D in the Real World, our brain works in 3D. Only limited technologies were forcing us in the past, to operate in 2D…2D is a convenient reduction of the Real Word.

"Imagine being able to shop online, view a product... then rotate that product around any axis to view the product in detail from any angle. In the example I was shown, I zoomed in on a very detailed, 3D version of a Palm Pilot, rotated the Palm Pilot to the back, opened the battery case... and then removed the batteries for a closer look. The 3D-technology is very impressive..." from a journalist visiting Palm website

TravelMate 350 Cult3D-demo is designed to let customers view the highly innovative new product from all angles, to zoom in and out, and to visualize key features and subsystems. According to T.Y. Lay, President of Acer Inc.'s Branded Business Unit, "We found Cult3D to be the answer to our search for an online interactive 3D-demo solution for our websites, as it's very easy to use and able to produces small-sized files."   - Business Wire, Nov 8, 2000

HMV.com   His Master Voice Canada's music store, recently signed on with Cycore to bring the missing element of on-line music shopping to the desktops of its customers. "The booklet that comes with CDs often contains pictures of the musicians, song lyrics, production notes and other valued pieces of information," said Frank Koblun, Director, Consumer E-commerce for HMV.com. "Cult3D allows to take a CD jacket and bring it to life on-line 236 kB +audio. Consumers can then virtually flip through the pages of it and get an excellent feel for its contents. It helps to complete the in-store experience."

Pre-purchase interaction : "try before you buy" approach
Not only see it from any 3D-angle, but try it !
Features like rotation, zoom, and virtual activation of components allow consumers to inspect 3D-models of products, test functionality, view available colors, and manipulate, remove, or add parts.
  • Rotate in all directions !
  • Zoom in for details on miniature parts !
  • Move through space !
  • Press buttons to operate !
Watch your products come alive as they interact with your customers at the mere click of a mouse. Your e-commerce customers can explore a product's functionality, interact with the products and subcomponents, test the actions of the various options. The 3D-technology allows to use different lighting angles and special sound effects including speech. Interactive 3D-models also allow buyers to view products' information on text.

You could further leverage on your investment in the creation of the interactive 3D models by re-using them for product support, tradeshows, or even in-store promotions and product demonstrations.

Increase sales
Displaying your products in 3D on your website will increase sales - this has been clearly proven by research. Studies have shown that we retain only 10% to 20% of what we read and hear. But when we add a "hands on" element or "touch and feel" interaction, we can retain up to 90%. Cult3D is that powerful. When you want your message to "stick" nothing works better than Cult3D. Your audience will not only see your message, they will become a part of it.

In use today by more than 250 companies in a range of industries, Cult3D customers have experienced sales increases of as much as 15%, and have reported up to 50% higher view rates compared to 2D Web pages. When you turn 3D-models around, hear the sounds they make and test their reactions to the touch of a button you are using the senses of sight and sound. You might still be missing touch, taste and smell, but the technology does allow you to go where normal visuals cannot take you, so that you can experience the more subtle and complex aspects of a particular item.

Canada ATI Technologies Inc., the world's largest supplier of 3D graphics and multimedia technology, has realized a 13% increase in sales from its on-line store since posting the Cult3D model of its latest and most powerful multimedia and graphics accelerators, ALL-IN-WONDER® RADEON™ and RADEON 64MB.
-
"We believe that the models completely explain the benefits of our products and allow our Web site users to make quicker purchasing decisions based on the feature sets," said Bal Sahjpaul, Director Internet Marketing, ATI. "Our click through rate increased 50% to the on-line store from models, directly after users viewed the 3D model."

Cult3D’s event-driven architecture gives you the ability to set up all the criteria for what your object can or cannot do depending on what the end-user does or doesnot do with your defined scene. In addition, you can use the traditional timeline animation for a more complex animation sequence

Implement Cult3D files into web pages
For your designers or web agency, implementation of Cult3D content into web pages, MS Office Documents or Acrobat PDF files is fast, easy and effective. Cult3D development environment allows developers the opportunity to develop interactive, real time 3D-presentations that load very fast using a standard Netscape or IE plug-in, fitted with their 1 Mo free plug-in. As the 3D presentations are 'generated' in real time using the pug-in, extremely large and complex 3D environments can be downloaded in a matter of seconds.
Developers should also note that the Cult 3D software is extremely easy to use and, like Macromedia's Flash, is GUI based and requires little if any scripting.

Ranging in size from 10 kB to 200 kB, your 3D-presentation can be displayed on almost any computer. You don't need special graphic accelerator cards or super fast microprocessors (above 133 MHz) : to view a 3D-model you simply download a free plug-in, just like you used to do with Real Player or Flash.

What is Cult3D ? www.cult3d.com
The software Cult3D easily builds and displays high-quality interactive 3D-models for Web sites, MS Office including PowerPoint presentations, and Acrobat PDF documents. Targeted toward product visualization, e-commerce, distance learning, gaming and entertainment applications, Cult3D lets consumers fully interact and understand even very complex objects. You can now create and show your own product line or services in 3D -- "live" on the Internet, or within a PowerPoint presentation or Acrobat PDF file. Cult3D requires no extra hardware and runs on PC and Mac over low-bandwidth connections. The viewer works under Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Explorer and consists of two components: The Cult3D plug-in, which allows users to view Cult3D objects on the Web, in MS Office documents, and in Adobe Acrobat files. The Cult3D Designer and Exporter, which imports 3D models*, adds interactivity, compresses the file to a fraction of its original size, and exports it to a Cult3D object file that can be embedded on a Web page or inserted into an MS Office or Acrobat document.
*From 3ds max, Alias Wavefront, Maya and Image Modeler from RealViz

Over 6 Million people have already downloaded the free Cult3D plug-in, making it one of the most popular browser plug-ins around. Download requests are accelerated by Akamai FreeFlow using Akamai network of more than 10.000 servers from 54 countries.

Cult3D adds interactivity to your already modeled 3D-object. All actions and interactions in the model are defined by events. An event can be a pressed key, a timer expiring, a mouse button clicked… Events are generated by such actions as translation, rotation, play sound, animation play, URL… Cult3D features 3D-model interactivity, sub-animation as morphing between two different frames, collision detection and advanced functionality accessed via user-imbedded Java code.

Let's vary viewer size with Cult3D

Cult3D models would be well-suited to

  • interactive 3D user interfaces

  • 3D boardgames and similarly fun promotional tools

  • training simulation

  • product feature familiarization

  • and 3D prototyping or product marketing tools.

Imagine immersive, interactive product demos that allow the user to fully activate all the features of a particular product, such as how the battery is inserted and removed on a cell phone, or how to send or receive calls, or how to retrieve messages.

  • Since Cult3D fully supports both audio (sounds from .wav files are compressed roughly 50%) and MIDI, you could have a photo-realistic digital recording environment that would allow the interconnecting of different compatible hardware and enable the user to virtually patch an entire multitrack studio.

  • If you’re a product manager and you have an idea for a new product concept that costs millions to design, you could simply have us design it in a Cult3D environment to showcase its' functions, and allow decision-makers to see the inner workings of the product concept.

  • Car manufacturers could preview the workings of a concept car during the design process to minimize design flaws (this would work for planes, yachts, motorcycles, equipment, etc.).

  • Architects could walk you through a 3D-structure that’s an exact replica of the actual structure being designed, helping to better include their clients in the process of design and visualization.

  • Consumer electronics manufacturers could benefit by allowing potential customers to become very familiar with a whole host of their products, or even prototype a complete product and it's functionality in 3D, and then run it by Focus Groups to acertain it's potential for success.

Flash 5.0 is a vector-based technology that yields compact file sizes for 2D interfaces and artwork, and is incorporated into websites and interfaces to add vibrato and speed elements to the interface. Flash technology, as it is the main web vehicle for delivering vector graphics. The future of music video will initially be defined by Flash, at least until faster internet connections allow real-time 3D as Cult3D. Imagine interactive animated music videos that allow the user to control the arrangement of the music while keeping the parts in sync and in time relative to one another.

Flash streams flawlessly even on slower connections if the artist creating the Flash content knows how to optimize the data both in size and in modularity of code. Combination of Flash, DHTML, JavaScript, Java and Cult3D, along with superior interface design, yields the word-of-mouth marketing exposure needed to effectively compete in today's digital marketplace.

EDITOR'S CORNER
The year 2001 saw the web3D market begin to mature; more and more of the world's large product manufacturers realized the superiority of communicating externally as well as internally through the use of 3D. More than 400 companies are now using Cult3D for product visualization, many of these companies joining over the last year. In North America, we saw companies such as Motorola, Hewlett-Packard and Proctor & Gamble initiating some significant projects for Cult3D applications. In Japan, we witnessed NTT Docomo, Nissan and Toyota creating impressive Cult3D applications as well. And in Europe, companies such as Ericsson, Siemens and Fiat "joined the Cult". These companies are really paving the way for the web3D explosion!

In 2001, Cycore increased its revenues by 30% while downsizing and focusing its operations in order to adjust to the new "old economy". We are a smaller core team, but all of us are 100% focused on Cult3D now that we have eliminated unrelated products lines. In North America, we have, for several reasons, focused all of our activities around our Toronto office. The city's strong 3D culture coupled with a strong Cycore team make Toronto an ideal
location to serve the North American market. Although smaller in size, Cycore continues to have offices in both France and Germany, with our international headquarters in Sweden.

2002 looks very promising. North America seems to be "waking up" somewhat from the 2001 recession. The year has started with a lot of activities and several new channel partners and end customers have come aboard. In Japan,
where Cycore is now represented by Sanyo, we have already begun to sign up many new Channel Partners.  Our solid partnership with Sanyo will ensure our Channel Partners in Japan receive superior, localized support from the Cycore brand.
